PRINCIPAL WELCOME & UNIFORM EXPECTATIONS
Dear Parents & Carers,
I would like to take this time to introduce myself and welcome you to our great school. I have spent the last 16 years working throughout our beautiful Far North Region stretching from Bellenden Ker to the Torres Strait with my previous two Principal appointments being Freshwater State School & White Rock State School.
I have a strong belief that school improvement requires vision, staff capability development and strong partnerships with our school community.
Foremost, I believe that all young people need to be supported in a safe and respectful environment for them to thrive. I place strong emphasis on children's social-emotional wellbeing whilst ensuring that we are maximising learning outcomes through high impact teaching and learning processes.
I have a strong belief that if we focus on the little things through clarity, structure and effective communication, we avoid the big things that can often breakdown partnerships and cause frustration.
I am excited to share with you that over the last fortnight I have witnessed a welcoming community, happy students and a highly confident and competent team of staff who have a relentless focus on supporting your children.
I strongly encourage all parents & carers to be actively involved with our school. This can be achieved by engaging with our teachers and joining our P&C Association who work industriously to support our vision.
Continuing to build a strong culture of pride & respect:
After receiving feedback from staff, students and our community, we are placing a consistent lens on student presentation and respect for one another, ourselves and our environment. This is tightly aligned to one of our key global rules of Be Respectful and closely follows our school uniform policy to ensure all our students are ready to successfully transition to high school.
Thank-you for supporting our school on this journey. Could I please ask that you assist your children in ensuring the following everyday:
Full school uniform expectation
- TBSS School shirt or sports shirt
- School shorts/ skorts or navy-blue shorts without TBSS logo are permitted
- Socks can be black, blue or white (brightly coloured knee-high socks are not permitted)
- Jumpers are to be dark blue (jumpers with hoods or brightly coloured are not permitted)
- Sun safe TBSS Hat (currently there is limited stock, this will be relaxed until supplies are received by our uniform shop)
School is not the place to wear jewellery, painted nails or make-up. Not only can this be divisive and isolating for our young people, it can present as a safety issue.
Jewellery expectation
- Necklaces, bracelets, anklets or large hoop earrings are not permitted
- Sleepers, studs, medical alert bracelets, watches, religious or memorial references are approved
The above school-wide expectations are monitored by all staff. Thank-you for supporting a sense of pride, belonging and respect in our inclusive school environment.
Over the year I will keep you informed through Principal emails correspondences, Newsletters, P&C Association meetings and our Social Media Facebook account.
Thank-you again and I look forward to supporting your child/ren on their learning journey at our great school.
Yours in education,
MR DAN HOLLIS
