Trinity Beach State School attracts students from the northern beaches communities of Palm Cove, Clifton Beach, Kewarra Beach, Trinity Beach, Holloway’s Beach, Smithfield, Redlynch, Caravonica, Kuranda as well as the smaller rural/residential developments on the western side of the Captain Cook Highway.
Trinity Beach State School is located in the Cairns District of the Far Northern Education Region, classified as band 9 and caters for approximately 730 plus students. The school caters for the needs of students who attend the Students with Disabilities Support Unit as well as the general needs of students enrolled in the primary year levels preparatory to seven.
The school, whilst being quite large, has a country school feel about it and many parents and new staff are surprised when they learn how many students attend the school. As the school services a large number of beach communities the school has never been seen as the hub of the school community. The school competes (friendly rivalry) for student enrolments with the two local private schools, Holy Cross and the Marlin Coast Campus of Trinity Anglican.
The diversity of student cultural backgrounds impacts on such areas as child rearing practices, views of schooling and education, behaviour management practices, communication with the school and also languages other that English spoken at home. The school has overcome the barriers to participation within educational programs operating within the school and is well supported by the majority of parents.
